Beatniks and Bohemians; Which do I fall under?
I’ve been confused as to which I would fall under since these terms seem to bring up the mental image of people sitting in cafes with their thick frames, laptops and javiattos as they wrote or painted something.
I know that bohemians are more the sort of ‘starving artists’ but beatniks are the ones most commonly associated with the cafe cliches.
I love art
I LOVE coffee
I love the cello/vibraphone
I love my thick dark frames
I love jazz
I love the contemporary yet tribal styles of African masks mounted on a deep red wall above a black painted table holding a hand made terracotta vase with maybe a few bare branches poking from it.
I am an artist as the term bohemian describes, but I also hit up the cafe scene with my dark shades, lingo, and desire to strum a wordless story on some cello or vibraphone.
it’s possible to to be both, right? I mean it’s not like being a nerd and being a cheerleader.
Am I more one than the other? I am curious, no more confusion
These are dated concepts that have a historical place. You are a cultured individual who is feeling somewhat trapped by pigeon holes you don’t seem to fully fit into. You also share some commonalities with the “hipster” of today, but that doesn’t make you one. Does it?
Why not throw away these useless terminological trappings and enjoy what you love and who you are as a result.
